About & Artist Statement
I started my making journey with crocheting when I was young, and have since tried to create something in practically every form of art. I like having plans for what I create, but the majority of the time I stray from that plan and make it up as I go. Sometimes I see an object or material and I know that I have to use it for something and that's all I know, but I start making anyway.
The materials I use are often from old projects or from the mountain of craft supplies I've accumulated over the years. I want to use my old materials in attempts to practice sustainability but also to compare my new work with things I created as a kid. I want to keep pushing what I can do with materials that used to be common crafts, so that I can show my own making evolution while proving that the value of art lies with those who view it, not what it's made of. I enjoy making things that have multiple meanings for the audience to interpret in their own way. I believe this establishes a stronger connection with the viewer and forces them to think and absorb more of the artwork. I strongly believe that the installation can change a piece completely, and therefore should be treated as part of the artwork itself.
I know that I will not be the best at every art practice I have tried or with every material I have used, but I will always want to learn more about the boundaries of art and of myself. Creating with such a breadth has allowed me to explore and experiment as much as possible and develop the understanding that through making, I can create art.
